Precision Cutting Tools/Gunther Wirth (PCT/GW) has started production of micro-grain carbide rods at its manufacturing plant in Balzheim, Germany. According to Shamir Sheth, PCT president, this development will both insulate the company against rising raw material prices and enable customized production parameters to better suit the needs of its cutting tools. The plant is geared toward production of both ground and unground solid rods as long as 330 mm. Plans are in place to fabricate coolant-hole rods, as well, including straight rods with one central or two parallel holes and helical rods with two or three holes.
