Quality Vision International (QVI; Rochester, New York) has formed a partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to outfit a new metrology lab in the university’s Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering & Technology department in the College of Applied Science & Technology. The lab formally opened with a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony December 2, 2015. QVI donated three pieces of equipment to the lab, collectively valued at over $175,000.

RIT students will use the systems to measure parts they design and fabricate in courses on CAD design, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), CNC machining, and 3D printing. The university also offers undergraduate-level courses on basic and advanced metrology, covering principles of measurement and use of metrology tools ranging from gage blocks and calipers to multi-sensor systems such as those from QVI.

“We’re proud to support RIT’s expanding programs in advanced manufacturing and metrology,” says Keith Polidor, vice president of QVI. “Using our equipment in their course work will help students hit the ground running as they begin careers in advanced manufacturing.”
