Toyoda Machinery USA (Arlington Heights, Illinois) has partnered with NASCAR team Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR). Through the partnership, MWR has added four Toyoda vertical machining centers to the shop floor of its Cornelius, North Carolina, facility. Two are boxway machines used to machine steel parts such as spring buckets, center links and idler arms, while two roller guideway machines were selected for high-speed titanium applications such as motor mounts. According to Tim Leoni, Toyoda’s vice president of sales, partnering with a racing team is something the company has wanted to do for some time, and the move made sense given its automotive background.
