Gardner Abrasives, part of Cinetic Landis Corp., offers the BDP bond system for centerless grinding applications. The system was developed to increase production rates and lower cost per unit. The BDP bond features a high-porosity design said to produce higher G ratios and provide freer cutting in OD grinding applications. The added porosity enables better penetration of coolant into the grinding zone, resulting in fewer dressings and wheel changes and the capability to grind more parts while lowering abrasive cost per part, the company says.

  • Vertical Grinding Has Advantages

In vertical grinding, the workpiece is held upright in a rotary chuck with the grinding spindle overhead. This configuration can improve roundness, facilitate single-setup processing and prolong the life of the machine. Loading and unloading may gets easier, too. Workpieces with relatively large diameters and short lengths benefit the most from vertical grinding.

  • Between Centers And Centerless Grinding In One Setup

It sounds like a contradiction in terms-between centers and centerless grinding on one machine. But for some categories of workpieces, it's a viable production process that can yield machining time reductions of 45 percent over separate grinding operations.

  • For Superfinishing Excellence, Start With The Right Finish

The key to excellence in superfinishing operations is the incoming grinding finish on the workpieces. With the right start, superfinishing is a very effective and economical process for achieving mirror-like finishes.
