Koslow Scientific Co.’s Alloy Ranger TE-4000 is a portable instrument engineered for speed, accuracy and ease of use in quality control and metal verification. This device provides reliable alloy identification for quality control engineers, stainless steel fabricators, field technicians and others.
The Alloy Ranger TE-4000 uses a thermoelectric measurement method based on the Seebeck Effect to provide numeric and color-coded alloy sorting in seconds through a one-handed heated-probe operation.
Key features of the alloy tester include:
- No isotopes or radiation: Operates without X-ray, isotopes or regulatory training — meaning no radiation safety officer is needed
- Battery-powered and portable: Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries provide up to seven hours of cordless operation
- One-handed, user-friendly design: No specialized training required, making it suitable for fast sorting on-site or in the lab
- Sort-by-color capability: Enables users to sort up to five alloys by color at a glance, accommodating those who prefer visual over numeric data
- Non-destructive alloy testing: Based on thermoelectric principles (Seebeck Effect) — no sparks, abrasions or sample loss.
- Data logging and export: Users can save up to 240 readings and export via USB to Excel for documentation or sharing
- NIST-traceable calibration: Supplied with a calibration coupon (C-276) and certificate for compliance and quality assurance
- Rugged and complete kit: Ships with a protective hard case, interchangeable heated tips, USB cable, brush and power adapters

The device is well suited for applications such as positive material identification, incoming and outgoing material inspection, scrap reclamation, weld and weld rod verification, alloy mix-up prevention as well as coating and plating detection. The TE-4000 conforms to ASTM standards and includes traceable factory calibration.
