Pinpoint Information Systems has released version 5.1.1 of its manufacturing execution system (MES) as well as manufacturing performance dashboards from Andon.

Pinpoint Information Systems has released version 5.1.1 of its manufacturing execution system (MES) as well as manufacturing performance dashboards from Andon. These software platforms now feature two real-time reporting apps, a business and manufacturing intelligence dashboard for overall performance monitoring and reporting for plant or engineering managers, as well as a corresponding plant floor or work station dashboard screen for assembly line workers and area supervisors to track progress.

Combined, the dashboards give manufacturers transparency to understanding their manufacturing operations. Users receive insight into how they are performing, including live overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) data visualization.

SmartScreens display easy-to-understand data to assembly line workers. Plant managers or manufacturing engineers can access the plant overview dashboard from the cloud on any computer or wireless device. Data trends are visualized and animated so users can easily understand them.

The software simplifies the transition from manual data interpretation and paper-based process manufacturing to paperless manufacturing. The performance dashboards enable manufacturers to identify and fix production line bottlenecks that might be compromising product quality and process efficiency.

  • MTConnect Is For Real

Introduced at IMTS 2008, this communications protocol for CNC machines and other manufacturing equipment is already helping shops and plants implement effective machine monitoring systems. Although these "early adopters" are motivated by the long-term promise of enterprise-wide efficiency gains, their experience with pilot projects shows that benefits derived in the short term are substantial and worthwhile.

  • Video: Machine Shop of the Future

Siemens produced this attractive video to illustrate what it sees as a likely representation of the machining facility of the future.

  • Standard Tool Classification for Better Data Communication

Cutting tool manufacturers have worked together to create a generic tool catalog format that helps link cutting tool information with applications supporting data-driven manufacturing.
