DMG MORI has opened a technology center in Somerville, Massachusetts. The company says it will be a hub for research and development of digitization solutions and processes for customers worldwide.

The official grand opening is planned for April 12, with an open house scheduled for the following day. The 340-m²-showroom will feature an NTX 1000, an NHX 4000, a DMU 60 eVo linear and a DMP 70. Next door, separated only by a roll-up door, Tulip has its headquarters. Its no-code platform for creating apps has been an important part of DMG MORI's product portfolio since 2019.

At DMG MORI Boston, 10 application engineers are on staff to design manufacturing solutions before they go into operation at the customer’s site. Processes are supported by 24 service technicians, and assistance is available on the hotline. The installed machinery and simulators will be used for training courses for employees and customers, the company says. It also intends to hire young professionals with knowledge in future-oriented topics like digitization, artificial intelligence and additive manufacturing.

The site at Assembly Square (named after the Ford Assembly Plant that once stood on this site) is intended to bring the company closer to its customers. “The proximity to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Wentworth College and other technical universities will also help us to further advance our focus topics of automation and digitization,” says DMG MORI USA president Dr. Keiichi Ota.

Similar to the innovation centers in Chicago and Davis, this one is intended as an important place for research and development in these fields. In particular, digitization will be of major significance because of the proximity to Tulip.

Tulip describes itself as empowering the world’s frontline workforce to improve the productivity of their teams, the quality of their output and the efficiency of their operations. The company’s no-code platform is designed to enable users to incorporate digitization into their operations and easily monitor tools, machines and processes.
