Horn USA Inc.’s chipbreaker geometry for its 274 tool system is designed for grooving and parting off on sliding-head lathes. The sintered chipbreaker geometry 1A is designed to improve chip control during turning, promoting process reliability. The geometry is well suited for machining various materials.
The indexable insert with two cutting edges is available in three cutting widths of 1 mm, 1.5 mm or 2 mm. Maximum grooving depth ranges between 3-6 mm. The insert is offered in TH35 and IG35 grades. Horn also provides an extensive range of toolholders for adaptation to different types of lathes.
The 274 system provides optimal repeatability of less than 0.02 mm when turning the double-edged insert. This is made possible by precise peripheral grinding of the insert in conjunction with the stable insert seat.
