Engis Corporation’s FastLap Facing Device is an optional upgrade for the company’s FastLap series of lapping and polishing machines. According to the company, lapping plates conditioned with the facing device produce more consistent surface finishes and more predictable metal removal rates. This helps manufacturers achieve quality goals while reducing reject rates and overall production costs.

The device uses a diamond tool bit to remove the top layer of the lapping plate and achieve flatness measured in microns. To produce a controlled surface geometry and texture, a second pass machines a groove pattern that serves as the basis for structured embedding of abrasive particles. Plates reconditioned with a facing device show excellent batch-to-surface consistency, the company says.
